Description

(These beautiful Indian cobalt beads are available so a similar rosary may be created.)

This lightweight rosary has an oxidized silver center with a Confirmation theme: the front has a father placing his hands upon his son’s shoulders, representing the believer being welcomed and supported by the Holy Spirit through the sacrament of Confirmation, while the reverse has the Holy Spirit as the dove descending with rays of light and the inscription “Veni Creator Spiritus” (Come, Creator Spirit). This medal has also been described as showing the Prodigal Son being welcomed home, and by extension would be a medal especially appropriate for a convert receiving Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion on the same occasion.

The crucifix is a double-medal Holy Family (or JMJ) crucifix in silver-plate; the front of the crucifix is heavily wood-textured and the corpus has lovely detail that shows some wear from use. The right arm of the crucifix has a Miraculous Medal depending from it with the usual inscription “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee”; while the left arm has a St. Joseph medal with his icon and the inscription “St. Joseph – Head of the Holy Family – Pray for Us” on the front, and on the reverse “J.M.J. Be with us on our way”.

The cobalt Indian glass Ave beads are 6x3mm ovals, a size that was among the most common size of Aves during the last half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The Paters are 8mm Preciosa crystal surrounded by crystal and cobalt seed beads. Heavy silver-plated wire forms the links and the Paters are separated from the decades by silver-plated chain.

This rosary is very appropriate as a pocket rosary due to its size and light weight.
