Description

SOLD. This particular bracelet can be recreated with the same Aves, Pater, crucifix, and toggle clasp, but different medals–please ask!

This rosary bracelet features two vintage silver-plated medals. The first one is a Scapular medal with the Sacred Heart on the front, and the icon of Our Lady of Peace on the reverse. The inscription “De tous fleau Marie de Paix preservez-nous” (From every plague, [Our Lady] Mary [Queen of] Peace) shows that this is a scapular specific to the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, which was established during the French Revolution to preserve the Church in France in secret. Later, their missionary work took them and their sister order to the Pacific islands. The best known member of the Congregation is Blessed Damien De Veuster of Molokai.

The second medal depicts St. Joseph holding the Christ Child on his right arm in the iconic form of Defender of the Holy Family (and of Catholic families): Joseph’s power comes not from his own strength (his own right hand and arm) but from the strength of Christ; hence St. Joseph holds his sceptre (denoting power or rule) in his left hand, and it is not a ruler’s sceptre or a crozier but his own staff crowned with lilies, symbolizing both St. Joseph’s purity and his protection of Our Lady (and of her purity). The reverse is a depiction of a Guardian Angel.

The Aves are 8mm salmon-pink jade, naturally colored not dyed; see under sample Ave beads) and the Pater is a 12mm lampwork bead of black glass with pink roses enclosed in clear glass. The bracelet crucifix is new, antiqued silver-plate. The bracelet is built of 1/10 silver-filled wire and is finished with a sterling rose toggle clasp.

Salmon-pink jade, as a pink gemstone, may be used as an October gemstone, and is much more durable that opals, especially for a bracelet that can get banged around!
