Description

Two beautiful vintage medals anchor this bracelet of 8mm rose-pink Preciosa crystals. The first one, a quatrefoil, scallop-edged diamond Scapular struck of aluminum, has the traditional Sacred Heart of Jesus on the front and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on the reverse. The second medal is that of devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus; the front has the Holy Face from the Shroud of Turin superimposed on a cross. The reverse has the inscription “Mane nobiscum Domine” and “AMDG” (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam) surrounding a radiant Host with the initials of Our Lord on it (IHS = Iesus Christus Salvator, i.e., Jesus Christ Saviour). These translate as “Stay with us, Lord, for it is almost evening” (the request of the men on the road to Emmaus in St. Luke 24:29) and For the Greater Glory of God. You may read about the Holy Face devotion here. This was the devotion that led St. Therese of Lisieux to take the religious name “Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face”. It is alpacca, also known as “German silver” which actually contains no silver but is a strongnickel alloy.

The association with St. Therese prompted the use of rose-pink crystals (the color of pink zircon, one of the birthstones for October) for the Aves and the choice of the 12x10mm faceted lampwork rondelle of black core glass decorated with pink roses sealed within clear glass. The Pater is protected by antiqued silver-plated spacers and 3mm Swarovski crystal AB bicones.

The bracelet is created with 1/10 sterling silver-filled wire and finished with a ‘grapes’ crucifix representing the Precious Blood and a carved scalloped toggle, both new, of antiqued silver-plate (lead- and nickel-free).
