Description

(The red jasper Aves and carnelian heart Paters are available for a custom rosary.  Similar crucifixes, centers, and medals are also available.  Please enquire.)

An antique silver-plated center with the Sacred Heart on one side and St. Joseph holding the Christ Child anchors this rosary of faceted red net jasper Ave beads (8mm) and composite Paters of carnelians in a faceted teardrop shape (14mm) with Celtic knot hearts (silver-plated) and 3mm clear crystals.  The mottled colors of ivory and grey overlaid with rusty brown and red ‘netting’ are natural to this stone.

The sterling crucifix fleurée is an antique from France and features a crucifix (corpus and cross) mounted on a pierced background cross with a quatrefoil halo and fleurs-de-lis crowning the arms.  A devotional medal of Notre Dame de Bon Secours (Our Lady of Good Help) has been added to the center in the traditional first position for a devotional medal; it is silver-plated and has the Madonna-and-Child statue of Notre Dame de Bon Secours with inscription on the front and the inscription “Basilique de N. D. de Bon Secours, Péruwelz” on the reverse surrounding a picture of the basilica, a pilgrimage destination in Belgium due to the intercession of Our Lady (the French Wikipedia has an article about the basilica and devotion: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilique_Notre-Dame_de_Bon-Secours).

There is a beautiful pilgrims’ prayer associated with Notre Dame de Bon Secours:

“God of mercy and of all consolations that grant your servants the necessary relief from the tribulations with which they are afflicted: grant us by the intercession of Our Lady of Good Help, your holy and worthy Mother, the graces necessary to bear with resignation the spiritual and corporeal evils you are pleased to send us, and deign to crown our sufferings with blessed immortality. Amen.”

The primary devotion to St. Joseph is the chaplet of the Seven Sorrows and Seven Joys of St. Joseph, which is described here: http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/liturgicalyear/prayers/view.cfm?id=1008.  My father’s family has been devoted to St. Joseph for several generations, so St. Joseph appears on many of my rosaries and bracelets either in his own icon or in the Holy Family icon.

The rosary is fully wire-wrapped in sterling-filled wire.
